MP encourages applicants for local Youth Fund
Rotorua MP Todd McClay says there are a number great local initiatives in the Rotorua and Te Puke areas that could be eligible for funding under the $150,000 Youth Fund 2017 programme.
The Government has just called for applications to support community initiatives led by young people.
“The Youth Fund supports community projects that help young people between the ages of 12 and 24 participate in volunteering, mentoring and leadership opportunities,” says Mr McClay.
A unique aspect of the fund is that it supports projects designed and led by young people, either working alone or in partnership with youth organisations.
“This is vital because it allows young people to pursue projects that will benefit other youth."
Individual applications under Youth Fund 2017 can be made for amounts between $2,000 and $7,000.
“This is a great opportunity for Rotorua and Te Puke young people to develop their own skills, while at the same time contributing to their community,” says Mr McClay.
“Some fantastic initiatives have been funded in the past including Youth Congress, recognition for our aspiring young leaders and local support programmes for youth, so I look forward to seeing the successful projects in our region in the future.”
Applications for Youth Fund 2017 close at midday on Friday18 November 2016.
