Rotorua MP Todd McClay says measures coming into effect today will provide more support for Rotorua families. Included in these changes are free doctors’ visits for children under the age of 13, an increase in paid parental leave, and a large reduction in ACC levies.

The changes made deliver on promises that we made in the election last year, and also will be welcome support for low-income families.

“As of today, 20,000 children under the age of 13 in Rotorua will be able to visit the doctor and have their prescription filled free of charge. This will remove cost barriers for parents, and mean that all children get the best healthcare if they need it, any time and any day of the week” says Mr McClay.

“Paid parental leave payments also increased to $516.85 per week today. This means that new parents will be able to spend more time at home with their children before heading back to work

“From today people will also pay less in ACC fees on their car registration. Owners of petrol cars will now save $130 per year, while diesel car owners will save up to $170 a year, leaving more money in the back pockets of local people

“We are supporting families to give their children the best start in life. These changes are good for Rotorua families and allow more time with their new children, reduce financial burdens, and give greater access for young children to healthcare” says Mr McClay.
