Rotorua MP Todd McClay has welcomed news of Jetstar’s expansion into regional New Zealand and says that ultimately this will be very good news for Rotorua's economy.

Whilst Jetstar are yet to announce their actual destinations they have indicated that Rotorua is on the short list.

Mr McClay said that along with Rotorua District Council and the Rotorua Airport Company he had held a number of discussions with Jetstar over recent years to promote the case for them to adopt Rotorua as one of their destinations.

This included traveling to Australia to meet with the executive team.

“I am delighted that Jetstar has recognised the importance of regional NZ from a tourism point of view”

“Rotorua is an outstanding tourist destination on a par with Queenstown. We offer a significant contribution to the attractiveness of New Zealand as a tourist destination and Jetstar's inclusion of Rotorua on their domestic network will means more visitors, cheaper fares and ultimately more local jobs” says Mr McClay.
